Protect Your Hair From Regular Damage:

A few ways to protect your hair from regular damage:

Protecting Your Hair

Ironing: Ironing dries your hair. Condition it with the following Multipurpose Conditioner and leave it on for 3-5 minutes at the tip. This conditioner is especially good for maintaining healthy, normal hair in its optimal condition. Aloe-Vera has tremendous moisturizing properties, while lemon juice is quite purifying and cleaning. Take lavender, rosemary, or mint essential oils, depending upon whether you’re seeking a relaxing or stimulating effect.
Ingredients: 1/4 cup (60ml) aloe-Vera gel; 1/2 lemon; 3-5 drops essential oils of your choice from the following:

Essential Oils

  • Caraway Carun carvi – stimulant, encourages hair growth, aids scalp problems
  • Cedarwood Cedrus atlantica – antiseptic and stimulant to scalp, reduce greasy dandruff, helps to renew hair growth
  • Clary sage Salvia sclarea – regenerative, improves poor hair growth
  • Juniper Juniperus communis – antispasmodic (greasy dandruff), antiseptic (greasy scalp)
  • Lemon Citrus limon – antibacterial, astringent (reduces greasy dandruff)
  • Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis – stimulating to circulation, helps renew hair growth
  • Ylang ylang Canaga odorata – tonic to scalp, aids hair growth.

Yield: 1 treatment
Preparation: Mix the aloe-Vera gel with the juice of half a lemon. Add the essential oils.
Application: Apply to freshly shampooed hair. Leave on for 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.

Rain Drenched Hair

Rain:Even a little rain causes a lot of problems. It makes your hair sticky and frizzy. And the high chlorine content in rainwater bleaches them, so you need to moisturize from the root to the tip, reversing the effects of rain.  When washing sticky, frizzy hair, massage the shampoo into the roots and allow the lather to work its way to the ends. Apply a conditioner from the mid-lengths of the hair to the ends, or use a leave-in-conditioner. The hair is often best styled with a gel, and it is most effective if it is applied when the hair is wet. Alternatively, allow the hair to dry naturally and then style it using a wax or pomade. Serums can also help. These are silicone-based products that work by surrounding the cuticle with a transparent microscopic film, which leaves the hair shaft smoother. Serum effectively prevent moisture loss and inhibit the absorption of dampness from the surrounding air.

Hair Pack

Dust: Needless to say, dust dries your hair and damages its sheen and texture immensely. Thankfully this hair rescuer pack can be applied after shampooing. Leave for 5 minutes. Dust requires frequent shampooing, which maybe harmful for the hair and may dry/damage it completely. Use the pack regularly to keep your hair looking fab.
Ingredients: 2 tbsp olive oil; 2 tbsp light sesame oil; 2 eggs; 2 tbsp coconut milk; 2 tbsp runny honey; 1 tsp coconut oil; blender or food processor; bottle;
Process the ingredients until smooth. Transfer to a bottle. Keep in the fridge and use within 3 days.

Air-Conditioning:The cooling effects of air-conditioning prove very harmful for hair. They make them extremely desiccated and rough. Use a leave-in conditioner which seeps in moisture to the very ends and gives hair its natural bounce.

Henna

Coloring: Hair coloring has chemicals that make you hair brittle and coarse. Especially when you highlight or streak till the tips. You can use natural colorants like henna, chamomile, Rosemary leaves, Sage leaves, Sandalwood, Walnut leaves and Madder for different coloring effects. Check here for hair color guidance – which one to choose and why?

Blow-Drying:Excessive blow-drying has damaging fall outs for hair – split ends. Split ends stunt hair growth hugely. Split ends cannot be repaired; the only long term solution is to have them snipped off regularly. What is lost in the length will be gained in quality. It may help if your reduce the frequency with which you blow-dry, as this in itself is stressful to hair and causes split ends to extend up the hair shaft. Never use the dryer too near the hair, or set it on too high a temperature. Minimize the use of heated appliances. Try conditioners and serums that are designed to seal split ends temporarily and give resistance to further splitting.
