Cleansing has assumed far more importance today, particularly in urban areas, where the skin is exposed to dirt and grime, as well as chemical pollutants in the air and water. Cleansing the skin at night is of utmost importance, to remove all the impurities that have been deposited during the day. Most of us love washing our face with soap and water, because it provides a refreshing and clean feeling. However, soap may not help to dissolve the pollutants and make-up and totally remove them from the skin surface. In fact, in oily skins, the cleansing procedure should also help to keep the pores free of hardened oil and impurities. Besides, most soaps are alkaline in nature. If the skin is dry and dehydrated, alkaline soaps and chlorinated water cause further dryness. In oily skin, soap helps to reduce oiliness, but washing the face excessively with soap and water removes the natural acid mantle of the skin and leaves it predisposed to bacterial attack. The skin becomes prone to problems like pimples and acne. The skin should not be washed with soap and water more than twice a day.
Cleanser For Oily Skin: For an oily skin, deep pore cleansing is essential, so that the pores remain free of oil. This helps to prevent blackheads and enlarged pores. The use of facial scrubs helps exfoliation of the skin, removing dead cells and cleansing the pores.
Mix rice flour with yogurt and apply on the skin. Rub gently, using small circular movements. Leave the mixture on for a few minutes and then rinse off with plenty of plain water. However, if you have rash, pimples or acne, facial scrubs should not be applied on them. You can apply them only on areas with blackheads.
Cleanser For Dry Skin: For a cleanser for dry skin, take half a cup of milk and add five drops of any vegetable oil (sesame, olive or sunflower oil), Put this in a bottle and shake well. Apply it on the skin using cotton wool and then wipe off with moist cotton wool. Keep leftover mixture in the fridge. Remember that home recipes should not be kept for more than 4-5 days.
